my husband is driving me absolutely insane!! ok, here goes…he wants to buy a popup camper. he is looking for an older model ( as we dont have alot of money to spend, approx. 500.00 ) that could use some TLC. the problem is that he can only find newer models. any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated as i dont think i can stand another night of headaches and nausea!!!
Hi Jen,
I loved your note! I definitely feel your pain.
The key question is, will you have more headaches and nausea or fewer if your husband actually does find an old pop-up camper?
A problem with old pop-up campers is that they leak, they smell, and they make truly ugly yard ornaments.
As unbelievable as it is, you might actually want to urge your husband to spend MORE MONEY on one, more than $500. More money might take care of the leaks and the smell. Nothing will eliminate the ugly yard ornament feature, though.
Here is the most disturbing fact: your husband can probably get an old pop-up camper for FREE! Why is that disturbing? Well, ask yourself, “Hmm, why are people giving these things away??”
The answer is because they leak, they smell and they are ugly. And spouses who didn’t resist hard enough up front now know that they REALLY, REALLY don’t like the thing because, well, they leak, they smell and they are ugly. Plus most them are rest homes for aged rodents.
Okay, okay, I may be overstating things somewhat. But heed the “free pop-up camper” ads. People can’t get rid of these things fast enough. There’s a reason for that. Usually she’s looking out of the window.
How about this? How about holding out for “Let’s just rent one a few times and see how it goes”? That almost always cures Old Pop-Up Fever because the rentals are newer. And often it cures Basic Pop-Up Fever. And your backyard isn’t ugly.
Craigslist.org is the best place to look. That’s largely because the ads are free. Nobody would try to sell one of these things in a paper that charged real money for an ad. I mean, talk about throwing good money after bad.
Shoot, if your husband stopped at 10 houses with older pop-up campers sitting in the back yard, he’d come home with five free ones and unbelievable offers on four of the other five.
How about if the two of you spend a weekend trolling around town, peaking in backyards? You’ll make some spouse very, very happy.

This is a 1989 sunlite camper whose walls collapsed under 1000 lbs of ice over the winter. I bought this camper in october and used it once. The canvas's are pristine, the axle & wheels are excellent, the floor is excellent as well. There is a stove n fridge inside (dont know if they work-didnt have chance to use em) Is roadworthy..taken to upper NH n back easily! Solid. Could be used for trailer or camper for the right person to fix. (the lockin arms broke/bent;) but some say it can be fixed. It's obviously covered to protect it from weather..if interested I can take more photos to send…serious inquiries only..thanks

I am cleaning the rest of my storage items out of it tomorrow and would love to see it gone. Dont expect much but the price is right.

This trailer is in very good condition for its age. We last used it last summer. No leaks. Electric and water hookups. Inside stove works. No battery or water tank. We didn't need it and this made the trailer lighter to tow. Small electric dorm size refrigerator included.
8 foot box, two 48" wide pullout beds. We reupholstered when we bought it about 5 years ago.
Awning attached. Pulls easy. Weighs about 1000 lbs.
Great Coleman quality. We put off buying a newer one until now because they are all basically the same.
